The enclosed photo is of my father, Dalton Jones, that was taken during our most recent trip to South Shore Lodge in June of 2014.
We have fished at SSL many times over the last 20 years. I believe our first trip was in 1995. My Dad and I had booked the trip along with my brother-in-law, Bob, earlier that year after meeting you at the Indianapolis Boat, Sport and Travel Show. My Dad was the one that decided that SSL was where we would fish in Canada. That trip was also paired with a black bear hunt. After that trip, we knew that we would be back.
There have been a ccouple of trips to other lakes in Canada, and also at another lodge on Eagle Lake. My Dad decided that any future trips would only be at South Shore Lodge.
My Dad, Bob, and I; along with sons, daughter and nephew have made I believe at least 6 visits to SSL. We know what we will get when we book a trip. The accommodations are great, the food fantastic, and someone will always catch a great fish or two. But most of all, it is a very relaxing week.
Bob and I talked after that trip and said if that was Dad’s last visit to SSL, it was a perfect week.

The photo of my Dad was taken one evening after supper. He and I were fishing in the channel that leads to Blind Bay. We were the one boat in that area (Bob and his son and daughter were fishing further north of the lodge). I just happened to have my iPad out taking photos when I caught my Dad looking at something further down the channel. I don’t know what it was; maybe a fish breaking the surface or an eagle flying by. Everyone who has seen that photo says THAT is Dad. It just captured his love of fishing and being outdoors.
Bob and I talked after that trip and said if that was Dad’s last visit to SSL, it was a perfect week. He had a great time and caught some real nice fish. Dad passed away in January. Dad was such an influence in us becoming avid fishermen and hunters.
We are planning on returning to South Shore Lodge in June of 2017 (that’s the earliest that some of us can go as there is a big-game hunt out west in 2016 that will use up our vacation time).
We will continue coming to SSL, because that is the place Dad “found” for us. He will always be with us when we are there; in the boat fishing, in the lodge at meal times, and in the cabin at night during our poker games.
Bob and I are excited that you’re back at SSL; and we look forward to coming up in 2 years.
